Everybody needs a vanity domain and this one's mine.

My name is Nathaniel Akin. According to Google there are at least 3 other people on the internet going by the same name: a Baptist, a basketball player and a musician. If you’re looking for any of them, you’re in the wrong place.

I’m the Nathaniel Akin that makes motion pictures, animated TV commercials, broadcast design and the occasional pizza. You’ll find examples of my recent animation, design and direction work at RiotSquad.TV

When I’m not making moving images I like to post odd findings on tumblr, do the occasional painting and play with technology.

My short film A Tax on Bunny Rabbits will be screening at this years Ottawa Animation Festival Sept. 21-25 2011. I’m hoping to be there in person once again this year and looking forward to seeing all the fantastic films and friendly animators!

Up until recently I was a full time staff director at Global Mechanic, a multidisciplinary art and animation studio in Vancouver BC. I spent nearly a decade with the fine people there and worked on many wonderful projects for a diverse number of clients. If you’re a talented animator, designer or programmer I recommend that studio as a great work environment filled with wonderful people.

I’ve got a brand new daughter who has a wonderful mother. I recently finished directing a batch of animation for the Silk Soy Milk interactive YouTube campaign and a few TV spots for Bank of America. I just finished reading ‘King Rat’ by James Clavell and ‘Altered Carbon’ by Richard Morgan. I enjoyed both books. I’m experimenting with cheap 3D stereoscopy techniques and ASCII animation.
